GeoLink

No Data Hub. No Problem.

A WITS bridge for live drilling data and striplog workflows.

Download GeoLink on both computers and pair them over an authorized network. The Pason / EDR sender reads an approved TCP or dedicated COM-port WITS output; the work-computer receiver shows the live records and can write WellSight StarLog files. No Infinity account or receiver key is needed for this direct connection.

Windows 64-bit · ZIP package · Version 1.4

Open on this computer

  1. Open the downloaded ZIP in Downloads and choose Extract All.
  2. Open the extracted folder and double-click START-GEOLINK-WORK-COMPUTER.cmd.
  3. The local receiver opens in your browser. Keep its window running and use its displayed IP and six-digit pairing code on the rig sender.

Windows 64-bit · ZIP package · Version 1.3

Open on the rig station

  1. Open the downloaded ZIP in Downloads and choose Extract All.
  2. Open the extracted folder and double-click START-GEOLINK-PASON-EDR.cmd.
  3. The sender opens. Choose the traces, then pair the work-computer receiver in Direct network.

No Infinity account needed

Connect the two computers.

Use an authorized rig network where the sender can reach the work computer on TCP port 8767. A pairing code protects the local receiver.

  1. Open the work receiver

Run GeoLink on the work computer. Keep its window open and note the displayed IP address and six-digit pairing code.

  2. Pair the rig sender

Run GeoLink on the Pason / EDR station. Scroll past Send to Infinity over internet to Direct network. Enter the work-computer IP and code, then select Pair and send. Choose which traces to send.

  3. Verify, then connect WITS

Start the demo feed and check the receiver shows incoming records. Stop the demo and connect the operator-approved TCP or dedicated COM-port WITS output. Demo values are simulated.

Feed StripLog / StarLog with GeoLink

GeoLink writes local CSV files. WellSight’s Live Data Acquisition (LDA) reads those files on a timed interval. This uses the paired direct receiver and does not need an Infinity account or key.

  1. 1. Pair and confirm the WITS feed

Start both GeoLink apps and pair the sender to the work-computer receiver as shown above. On the sender, choose the approved traces. Check that the receiver’s Latest WITS record and record count update before setting up WellSight.

  2. 2. Turn on StarLog files in the work receiver

Open WellSight StarLog LDA output, check Enable StarLog output, enter an absolute folder on this computer such as C:\GeoLink\StarLog, and choose the depth, survey MD, and curve WITS codes. Select Save StarLog output. Confirm the receiver shows a last write and check for curve_data.csv and survey_data.csv in that folder.

  3. 3. Map the curve file in WellSight

In your WellSight log, open File → Live Data Acquisition → Curve Data. Select curve_data.csv, map DEPTH and the available curve columns (for example ROP, GAS, GR) to the intended log curves, enable Start LDA After Import, and choose a 1–60 minute update interval. Confirm the depth units and gas lag before relying on the plot.

  4. 4. Add surveys if needed

In WellSight StarLog 8.8, open File → Live Data Acquisition → Surveys, select survey_data.csv, and map MD, INC, AZM and TVD if supplied. GeoLink writes a survey row only when MD, inclination and azimuth arrive together in one WITS record; TVD can be blank. Check the survey count in the receiver.

  5. 5. Check updates and protect the log

Keep both GeoLink windows running. Verify new receiver records, CSV write status and the corresponding WellSight curve or survey update. GeoLink’s local files cover the current receiver session; they do not recover pre-pairing history. Save your WellSight log and review its data-lock settings before changing or restarting LDA.

Check the rig’s code map. The work receiver proposes depth 0110, survey MD 0708, ROP 0113, gas 0140 and GR 0824; these are editable, not a guarantee of the station’s mapping or units. WellSight LDA rereads files at its scheduled interval and is not a real-time EDR or gas-detector monitor. WellSight StarLog 8.8 LDA notes ↗

Optional Infinity upload

Want the feed in Infinity too?

Sign in to Infinity and create an expiring receiver key under Connect WITS → Local rig-computer feed. Paste it into the sender’s Send to Infinity over internet section and select Connect cloud feed. This uploads over HTTPS and can work when the two computers are on different networks. It is separate from the key-free direct receiver.

What’s included in each download?

Geologist / Work Computer: a start file that opens the local receiver, a short guide, and StarLog LDA output. Keep the receiver running for live records and StarLog files.

Pason / EDR Station: the rig sender, its bundled runtime and serial helper, and a short guide. No separate Node.js installation is needed.

The station package is GeoLink Sender 1.3 (same sender, updated direct-first guide); the work-computer package is GeoLink 1.4.

What do I need for real Pason / EDR data?

The rig operator must provide an approved WITS output and its connection settings: a TCP address and port, or an available dedicated COM port. GeoLink reads that output; it does not configure the Pason system.

Use rig-managed equipment with operator approval. Keep any COM port already used by the gas detector or other software available to that equipment. Confirm channel labels and units against the rig’s actual WITS map before relying on the readings.

Internet mode requires the source computer to reach Infinity over HTTPS. Keep the receiver key private, replace it when it expires, and revoke it in Infinity when finished.

Do the computers need to be on the same network?

For the key-free direct receiver, the sender must be able to reach the work computer on the authorized network. The link uses TCP port 8767 and displays records in the local receiver, including StarLog LDA files when enabled. The receiver works on desktops and laptops. Use 127.0.0.1 only when both apps run on the same computer.

For different networks, the current option is Infinity upload over HTTPS with an account and receiver key. GeoLink does not yet provide a standalone key-free internet relay.

The app cannot start automatically from a website download. Windows may ask you to confirm opening this unsigned test build. Windows x64 · Unsigned test builds · Sender 1.3 / Work Computer 1.4. Extract the whole ZIP and keep its files together. Demo values are simulated. The local app keeps a limited record buffer in memory; it is not a permanent data archive.
