Fossils by formation
These are original schematic fossil illustrations in the campaign rock, checked against formation age and depositional setting. Their positions, sizes, counts and depths are illustrative, not recorded specimens or measured fossil horizons. Symbols are exaggerated for visibility and do not change drilling, logs, reservoir contact or production. A dark outer silhouette and pale raised edge keep the small symbols readable over varied rock; that contrast is a display convention, not measured preservation, mineral replacement or relief.
| Game interval | Age and setting | What can appear |
|---|---|---|
| Belly River / Wapiti–Belly River | Late Cretaceous; selected illustrative nonmarine sand beds | Sparse partial dinosaur remains, supported by body-fossil evidence from Belly River and Wapiti. Marine Bearpaw/Belly River composites are excluded. The game does not assign a species to an undifferentiated interval. |
| Gething | Early Cretaceous; selected nonmarine sand-bed surfaces | Dinosaur track impressions. Gething also includes marine beds, so mudstone, coal and ambiguous Gething–Cadomin composites do not receive tracks. |
| Fernie | Jurassic; marine | Coiled ammonite shells and belemnite guards in suitable muddy/silty/carbonate fabric. No dinosaur skeletons. |
| Montney–Doig | Early–Middle Triassic; marine | Sparse generic ammonoid impressions, without species or zonal assignments. Montney predates dinosaurs. No dinosaur or marine-reptile body fossil is inferred for this combined interval. |
| Midale; Frobisher–Alida | Mississippian; skeletal carbonate | Brachiopod shells and coral fragments in selected carbonate facies. Evaporite intervals are excluded. |
Why age alone is not enough
Dinosaurs lived on land. A Jurassic or Late Triassic age does not make every marine bed a dinosaur deposit. Formation identity, environment and preservation matter. Unresolved generic Jurassic/Triassic labels, Torquay, crystalline basement, volcanic rock and evaporite receive no identifiable fossil illustration in this pass. Fossils stay inside the existing formation/facies polygons, including folded bands and separately supplied fault/pay gaps.

The two existing collection bonuses are now labelled rock samples, retaining their points and collection rules. They are not fossil occurrences. Sources checked 20 October 2026. This pass covers the campaign renderer; advanced HZ, Doug and historical renderers retain their existing geology. New text is written guidance; no new voice recording is claimed.
