PUBLIC WELL-CORE AND LOG EVIDENCE: SOUTHEAST SASKATCHEWAN
Compiled 2026-10-22 from public read-only sources. GIS extract date 2026-10-21.

WHAT WAS OBTAINED
Extended study envelope: -104.15 to -101.45 longitude, 49.6 to 50.7 latitude.
Public layer2: 12,277 core inventory records.
Public layer3: 16,042 drill-cuttings inventory records.
Public layer4: 1,857 thin-section inventory records.
These are inventory rows, not specimens, photographs, original well logs, analysis measurements, or independent well counts. Duplicate slab/whole records and overlapping intervals are retained.

Public source layers:

priority_wells.csv and priority_wells.json contain 31 deliberately selected wellbores, original IDs and licence numbers, core ranges, sample labels, evidence notes, individual public query URLs, and reconciliation flags. priority_core_records.csv and priority_archived_thin_section_records.csv preserve all original selected sample-inventory rows including source OBJECTIDs.

focus_sample_inventory.json contains the larger pool/name-filtered inventory, not a complete regional well census. Pool membership is read from well completion headers; it does not establish the formation represented by every core in the well. A name-filtered bore can lie outside the named pool.

CURRENT ORIGINAL-DOCUMENT ACCESS LIMITATION
Production GeoAtlas public configuration explicitly states that well-document downloading has been temporarily disabled, with no estimated time on when or whether it will be re-enabled. It directs requests for IRIS data files to ServiceDesk and notes possible cost.
https://gisappl.saskatchewan.ca/Geocortex/Essentials/EXT/REST/sites/Sask_GeoAtlas/map/mapservices/29/layers/0
No attempt was made to bypass this restriction, enter accounts, or use private APIs. No original LAS files, original scanned wireline logs, raw core-analysis tables, or full original target-well core-photo sequences were obtained through this route. No request was sent to third parties.

PHYSICAL REPOSITORY
The Saskatchewan Subsurface Geological Laboratory maintains core/cuttings and provides examination facilities. Physical examination, photography, and analytical sampling are distinct from browsing the GIS inventory. See the official facilities page:

PUBLISHED TARGET-WELL EVIDENCE ALREADY DOWNLOADED
Thomas and Qing (2025), GR2025-9, is present at research_depositional/redriver/2025_Thomas_Qing_GR2025_9.pdf. Its figures are published interpreted panels and selected photographs, not complete original well files.

Table1 p7 identifies 50 study thin sections from eight cores. These counts are kept separate from public layer4 repository inventory. Some study samples have no matching public thin-section inventory record.
Figure5 p8: Tyvan10-8-13-13, UWI131/10-08-013-13W2/00, licence98L026. Published wireline suite contains gamma ray, PE, neutron/density porosity, sonic and resistivity with interpreted facies. Visually checked: a 5 m vertical scale bar is present, but absolute depth ticks and KB/GL datum are absent. Useful for relative facies-log calibration; not sufficient for absolute-depth digitization or original-log QA.
Figure6 p10: includes Chapleau Lake deviated7-33, UWI191/07-33-014-12W2/00, licence05J257, core photographs at2166.9/2165.3 m and photomicrograph2165.48 m; Montmartre8-21 core/photo at2142 m; Chapleau2-23 core/photo at2115.2/2113.3 m.
Figure7 p12: Tyvan14-17/licence98L084 core at2151.0 m; Tyvan2-20/licence98L009 core at2150.62 and2155.3 m; Tyvan10-28/licence99I255 core2164.2 m; Montmartre8-21/licence98I008 core2164.7 m.
Figure8 p13: various local core photographs and photomicrographs. Chapleau1-27/licence98L083 caption gives2226.8 m, which conflicts with its listed core range2106.6-2136.6; retain and reconcile, do not silently edit. Tyvan10-28/licence99I255 thin section at2178.5 m is slightly below Table1 core-base2178.0 m.
Figure9 p14: Montmartre8-21/licence98I008 core2163.1-2167.05 m illustrates limestone/dolostone fabric contrast. Caption explicitly describes water saturation in Lf8 here; it is not a photo of oil pay.

DEPTH AND COUNT RULES
Public core/cuttings fields are strings INTERVAL_TOP/INTERVAL_BASE. Public layer metadata does not explicitly state units or KB/GL datum; reproduce raw values and verify original files. GR2025-9 Table1 explicitly uses metres for the matched study intervals. Thin-section field is MEASURED_DEPTH. Header bottom TVD strings often explicitly say mkb, but that does not by itself establish sample depth datum. Never assume a directional or horizontal bore's MD equals TVD.
Analyzed_flag=Y establishes an inventory flag; it does not supply the measurements or guarantee adequate preservation for a new analysis. No measured porosity/permeability values have been inferred from that flag.
Do not add overlapping slab/whole records or report an envelope as continuously recovered core. Near-equal sample depths can be rounding/duplicate entries and are not necessarily independent specimens.

HIGH-VALUE RECONCILIATION ITEMS
Bemersyde5-34/licence97F195 has a deep well bottom2275 mkb but listed core1118-1136.3; pool affiliation must not turn that shallow core into Red River core. Bemersyde W1-4/licence97I380 has the relevant deep candidate interval2105-2123.
Chapleau SWD16-14/licence98J089 has public thin sections labeled LOWER INTERLAKE GROUP at2115.5/2118.6/2126.5 despite Red River pool affiliation. Preserve labels pending original-file verification.
Chapleau deviated7-33/licence05J257 Table1 base2193.2 differs from public last interval base2192.0. Preserve both.
Wapella10-34/licence53B002 has a Wapella Sand thin-section record687.53 below listed core end682.8; reconcile provenance.
Questerre Wawota13-29/licence10L073 and13-30/licence10L105 are concrete analyzed cored exploration wells, potentially relevant to the company's described noncommercial program; exact test correspondence has not been proved from original well files.
