Formation surfaces beneath the southeastern Saskatchewan basin margin

iRegional reconstruction. Surfaces show gross stratigraphy, not reservoir quality or oil pay.

How the reservoir rocks formed.

Marine shelves, evaporitic flats, valleys and tidal channels built several distinct geological systems. The evidence below separates observed rock from regional interpretation.

Read the evidence at its own scale.A regional formation surface can locate an interval. Local core, logs, pressure and fluid tests are needed to establish a reservoir within it.

TRACEABLE GEOLOGICAL FRAMEWORK

Sources, methods & limits.

The model is a regional reconstruction from public geological information. Every displayed surface should be read alongside its input coverage and stratigraphic definition.

What the geometry means

What it does not establish

  • Individual reservoir sand bodies, effective porosity or permeability.
  • Hydrocarbon charge, mobile oil, drilling success, pay or reserves.
  • Parcel-scale closures or an exact ancient shoreline.
  • A surveyed terrain surface or a specified geodetic vertical datum.

Oil-pool footprints

The oil-pool layer loads independently of the formation model.

Wellbores, horizontal traces & TD

The current wellbore inventory loads separately from historical formation-top controls.

Production, drilling shows & isolated-well screening

Public production evidence loads independently. Published oil shows and core residues are identified separately from reported oil volumes.

Contours, formation zero edges & erosion

Open Contours & edges in the model toolbar. Select a formation, switch on contours, choose top structure, base structure or gross thickness, then enter your interval and contour origin in metres. Select Apply contour settings or press Enter after editing. Use the active formation for a clear view, or contour all visible formations. The same line geometry appears in desktop 3D and supported WebXR sessions; headset controls can toggle it, halve or double the interval, and switch quantity.

Top and base contours use signed source elevations. Gross-thickness contours are draped on the formation top and measure the named interval, not net reservoir or pay. Top-only horizons have no base or thickness contours. Gaps in supported surface triangles remain open. Smaller contour spacing adds display detail without adding control data or resolving smaller geological features.

Red lines identify published formation zero edges where available. Purple marks attributed unconformity evidence; gold dashed lines are adjustable model-thinning indicators; grey dashed lines distinguish model support and reference-only projection. A zero edge does not establish its depositional or erosional cause. Published horizontal edges are placed on a matching regional horizon only where that exact surface is supported; unsupported portions remain separately labelled at the 0 m reference plane.

Show erosional surfaces / evidence selects supported erosional horizons, or attributed source contours when no corresponding mesh is available. The Manitoba MES is a bounded interpretation from historical well picks, with documented conflicting display nodes excluded; it is not a restored ancient landscape. Read the formation-edge and erosional-surface guide for evidence classes and reservoir-screening examples.

Complete portable regional GLBs include fixed 50 m structure contours. To take your own interval into other 3D software, use Export selected surfaces + lines · GLB. That export contains selected horizon tops and current linework; use the complete regional models for pool and well geometry. JSON linework exports retain projected coordinates, source datum and settings.

Desktop, mobile & headset use

On desktop, drag to orbit, right-drag to pan and scroll to zoom. On touch screens, use one finger to orbit and two fingers to pan or zoom. Select a surface or an enabled well pick to inspect the evidence. Keyboard shortcuts: R region, C corridor, T top view W wireframe and P oil pools.

In a compatible WebXR headset, choose Enter VR. The model appears at tabletop scale. Point a controller at the floating panel and pull the trigger to change formations, switch between a solo layer and the overview, adjust vertical exaggeration, toggle oil-pool footprints and names, reset the model or exit. Trigger a pool footprint to see its official name, code and name-derived interval. Pool outlines follow the respective regional formation tops where supported; unsupported portions remain at the reference plane. Wellbores and mapped 2D traces can be toggled in VR; assumed paths remain distinct from measured surveys. Headset availability depends on your browser and device.
